BATTLE OF SUPREMACY IN THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY "PMAN"

Words:Adedosu 'kenzy'Adekunle

Just like OLIVER TWIST, There is a battle of supremacy in the music union, Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) which started few weeks back. Peace now seems far from the union.

Earlier this week in Lagos, another faction whose president is being touted as Preddy Wise is opposing the current leadership of the union led by Admiral Dele Abiodun and they are currently persuading different music acts to join their train and be part of their government.

This is however different from the coalition of Hip-Hop acts who tried to take over the leadership of the association at the last PMAN election in Osogbo.

Reports from Rhythms & Sounds indicate some prominent members of the association have been challenging the process the returned the President of the association, Admiral Dele Abiodun.

The allegations leveled against Admiral Dele Abiodun were that he refused to follow due process in conducting the elections and misappropriation of the union’s fund.

The faction named Kenny Saint Brown popularly known as KSB as their First Vice President earlier this week in Lagos and KSB told Rhythms & Sounds that it might be an opportunity to give the association a new face but she is yet to accept the offer.

“We went to Oshogbo on behalf of our team, the young artistes to agitate for a change but we got was a big resistant. We were called all manner of names and greatly ridiculed. We washed our hands off the union and came back to Lagos to form our own association which I’m a part of the executives.

The alleged impeachment of Mr. Dele Abiodun has ushered in another president and they want me to be part of it. The new president is young and he has identified with the ideology our association. The new PMAN President which is yet to be sworn in wants to work me because he believes I have what it takes to turn PMAN around.

They want me to be the Vice President and I appreciate them for calling me but I still have to consult with my people to make sure their ideology is the same with our association’s ideology. Young people should be allowed to run PMAN.

They should be allowed to take their destiny into their hands and probably that’s why they feel that if they can get Kenny St. Brown, it will help a lot in restructuring the union. PMAN needs a new image and a new identity.

The artistes will be happy because they will now have a place they can call a home in PMAN. I don’t think I want to be part of their politics actually but my association will decide”, she said.

However, these were the words of PMAN President, Admiral Dele Abiodun the last time we spoke to him. “If people are part of an agreement that presented them with defeat, they tend to turn around and cause confusion.

I’m still the President of PMAN. I took over the office again on Tuesday February 15 as the new president. The disgruntled elements spreading rumours and maligning my name are no more in the secretariat.

They are now negotiating and begging to come back but we don’t have time for them now. The allegations leveled against me are baseless. All our decisions in the union are properly guided by our legal advisers”, he explained.

With the present situation, it will be very difficult for anyone to predict what will happen next to the union.
